Assessment Grading The grading system used to assess the clinical performance of students in relation to each standard is based on the Bondy rating scale (1983).
Level Standard of Performance Independent This would be considered a very skilled level of practice Clinical practice is safe. Proficient in all areas: requires Excellent application of evidence based knowledge to practice. Proficient, coordinated, confident & adaptable in technical clinical Professional, caring & empathic at all times. Excellent interpersonal communication with patients & staff Excellent clinical reasoning & evidence-based decision making Interventions & behaviour suitable to the client & circumstances Identifies appropriate referrals within the multidisciplinary team no cues for thinking or action skills. Supervised Minimal requirement Clinical practice is safe. Proficient in some but not all areas : requires occasional cues for thinking or action Sound application of evidence based knowledge to practice. Coordinated, confident & adaptable in technical clinical skills Professional, caring & empathic at all times Effective interpersonal communication with patients & staff Sound clinical reasoning & evidence-based decision making Interventions & behaviour suitable to the client & circumstances Identifies appropriate referrals within the multidisciplinary team level for pass in NURS 5158 Consolidation of practice Assisted Minimal requirement Level of clinical practice is of a safe standard: frequently seeks/requires supportive cues for thinking or action Applies evidence based knowledge to practice.
