WGSS 2100:  Assessment Essay
In this essay, discuss how gender works in society, with the following parameters:
Your essay should start with a broad definition of “gender” as you’ve learned about it in the context of
this course, including its distinctions from “sex” and biology. You should also address the concept of
“intersectionality” and how it’s important to understanding gender.
Then, you must advance the discussion by picking 3 of the 5 following areas to write about: politics,
economics, culture, history, or global issues. How does gender influence these different spheres of
society? You should draw on multiple course readings and sources throughout your discussion, as well
as ample intersectional examples, to explain the workings of gender within and across these areas of
society. Each area should get its own paragraph and discussion; use strong transitions and clear
organization to structure your essay. Feel free to work in key course concepts or theories where relevant
as well.
Length: Please write no less than two pagers and no more than four pages, including the works cited.
